The notorious practices of UIPM monarch Klaus Schormann (I): the trade in Olympic accreditation, disguised as sponsor contracts

Part I: Read the original of a so-called sponsor contract that Klaus Schormann, in violation of the UIPM statutes, signed on his own authority, with a strange consulting firm whose owner had just been convicted of tax fraud and went to prison shortly after the contract was signed.

ESTORIL. Klaus Schormann (78), a pensioner from Darmstadt, is also slaving away at Christmas in the honorary post he has held for more than three decades. On 24 December 2021, the eternal president of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) signed a sponsorship agreement with a company called Sirius Sports Marketing in Monaco for a sum of $250,000.

This contract is one of several dubious contracts that Klaus Schormann, UIPM boss since 1993, has signed and concluded on his own authority for many years, contrary to the UIPM statutes. Normally, two signatures are required – including those of the secretary general (Shiny Fang) or the treasurer (John Helmick).

This is regulated by Article 16.1 of the statutes:

But Klaus Schormann always interprets the rules of his association liberally. In the UIPM, only his word and his will are law.

The board members were not informed about this contract – another violation of the statutes. In connection with this and other contracts, such notorious breaches of the rules are almost negligible.

Incidentally, Juan Antonio Samaranch, son of the former IOC president of the same name, has been serving as the first vice president of the UIPM for an eternity. Samaranch Jr., currently an IOC vice president, wants to become IOC president in March 2025. His chances are not bad. The practices in the UIPM, which Samaranch has supported for several decades, could become a problem for his IOC plans. This is also what this series will be about.

Please let me consistently put the term ‘sponsor’ in these special Schormann cases in quotation marks. You will quickly see why.

Is Hockey president Tayyab Ikram collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal commissions from the Olympic Solidarity fund?

The corruption allegations against the president of the Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH) are serious and bizarre. The case affects not only the FIH, but also OCA, as well as the IOC's core business: Olympic Solidarity. And here, as with several other IFs, the IOC is not taking action.
